DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER ~ SANDBACH ROUND TABLE

CELEBRATE 60 YEARS

Celebrating 60 years of Round Table fun and fellowship, members of Sandbach Round Table past and present were joined by Tablers from all over the UK and Europe to join in their party at the Town Hall on Friday.

Organiser of the event, Past Chairman of the Table, Anthony Stubbs said “We could not have wished for a better turn out for what is a landmark birthday in an exciting organisation”

The event, held every five years, marked a significant date in the Table’s history. With more than 140 Tablers, past and present with their guests helped wish the Table a very happy birthday.

Toasting the Table, President and Past Chairman of Sandbach Round Table Richard Brown provided the guests with a potted history of the Table; current Chairman Peter Henderson continued the story and thanked all the guests for attending from as far away as Paris and Newtownabbey near Belfast. Wrapping up the speeches, National President of RTBI Peter Manley congratulated the Table on a splendid Charter event commenting that it had been the best event he had been privileged to attend as National President of the organisation.

Tabler Stubbs went on to thank the guest speaker who appeared at short notice following unfortunate circumstances of previously booked speakers who could not attend the function. He said, “Our comedian this evening Ollie Simpson was fantastic.”

Following the event on Friday, the Tablers continued to entertain their visitors for the rest of the weekend and attended the Area 22 Ladies Night the following evening where more than 100 Tablers and their partners gathered at a hotel near Manchester Airport for this annual event.

If that was not enough, most of the Tablers who had been involved in the previous two events then met the volunteers who erect the Christmas lights in the Town early on Sunday morning to make sure these were up and ready for the official lights switch on ceremony to be held on Saturday 29th November.

Commenting on the Charter event, Chairman of Sandbach Round Table, Peter Henderson said “this has been a fantastic weekend! Only in Table could you have so much fun with so many people from such far flung places! Table has worked hard to produce this memorable weekend and I thank all those who have been involved.”

President of Table, Richard Brown said, “I was very proud to represent our Table at this auspicious occasion and glad to see that all who attended had a great time”

Past members of the Table were represented by members of 41 Club where the oldest member and Past Chairman was John Pritchard who was Chairman in 1958-59. With a final word on the Charter he said, “It is always an enjoyable occasion but this was a very special. We are all proud to see that Sandbach Table is thriving and it was particularly pleasurable to see two new members join us this evening. One person who is missing this evening is Past Chairman Charles Lowe (1953-54) who is in hospital – we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him soon”

To celebrate 60 years of Tabling, the members have a number of events lined up for this year. Recently they successfully cycled more than 500 miles raising thousands of pounds for Sandbach Talking Newspapers, and have also organised a successful beer festival. The Table are currently gearing up for their annual Santa Float trips around the Town.
