Tandem trek wheels
in cash for charities
Chronicle July 2008
Sandbach Round Table members are celebrated the
group's 60th anniversary with a marathon tandem bike
ride for charity.
A team of 25 Tablers
travelled
580 miles in four days around the UK & Ireland.
Sponsorship money
will be donated to local causes including the
Sandbach Talking Newspaper.
Group spokesman
Paul Molley said: "Round Table members are well
known for their crazy stunts to raise much needed
cash for community based projects".
"The team rode the
tandems to Holleyhead then caught the ferry to
Dublin. Next the rode to the north to Belfast took the ferry to Stranraer
in Scotland before
journeying
south to Penrith and back to Sandbach.
That
was the five countries in four days".
The Tablers
cycled more than 130 miles on each of the four days. Beforehand,
the team spent months in training for their challenge.
Group
Chairman & event organiser Peter Henderson said: "Being
a member of Table is fantastic.
You
have a brilliant time with great opportunities to raise much
needed cash for our local community to assist charitable projects
- no one can say we just sit there."
The groups
cycling kit was provided by the Aldi store in Sandbach.
Branch
Manager said: "We are glad to hear they had a safe journey and a
strong tailwind to assist with the ride."
