Sorry it’s a tad late…but here’s a ‘short’ write up about the Derek Stubbs Cup game vs Alsager!
Last Thursday, Sandbach RoundTable took part in a Cup match vs the fantastic group of Alsager Round Table.
Recently Sandbach RoundTable were made aware of the fantastic efforts of Dave, Viv and Rach Chadwick of Sandbach Netball Club and the amount of effort that they put in to provide the young people of Sandbach (and surrounding areas) with a Netball club that they can play, learn and develop at. The effects that this club has on the local community hadn’t gone unnoticed and Sandbach RoundTable felt that Sandbach Netball Club would be an ideal candidate for a group donation. So last Thursday Sandbach RoundTable handed over a cheque for £500.00(!)
The money will be spent on training the next wave of professional netball coaches for the club, which in turn will help the continuation in growth and hopefully give the club an even greater reach to more young people and other local residents and age ranges (and potentially a men’s team *coughVincenzo Migliore). A non-profit making club and still relatively ‘young’ (stared 5 years ago with only 8 girls involved), they now have over 120 registered members/players!
As a thanks for the donation, Dave (and family) kindly offered to host and umpire a Netball game in honour of the Derek Stubbs Cup, which Sandbach and Alsager compete for in annual sporting events. The umpire team consisted of some of the girls who train and play for Sandbach Netball Club, who did a remarkable job…the only criticism being they they could have been a little more kind to the bumbling fools who played…the fitness of the average 35 y.o. was somewhat short of the athletic conditions of a 14 y.o. netball regular!
Topping off the evening and event, Sandbach won the game and came away with the Derek Stubbs Cup. It was a fantastic match (which took the best part of 3 periods of play before the gents understood the mere basics of the game) and they all did fantastically well considering the lack of Netball experiences out on the court. Vinny (MOTM) was terrific at Center (position) where he showed signs of being a Netballing Xavi.
Thank you to David, Vivian, Rach and the incredible (and strict) young umpires! Thank you to our neighbours, Alsager Round Table who contributed to such a great contest.
